Many women suffer from Breast Implant Illness(BII) after getting breast implants(saline or silicone). It is associated with a constellation of symptoms involving many different parts of the body. The most commonly mentioned symptoms are fatigue, brain fog, and muscle/joint pain. But the list is quite extensive.

The associated mechanism of BII is not well understood at this time. But it appears to be related to the foreign body inflammation mounted by the body in an effort to rid of the foreign body (implant). The silicone material used to make the outer shell and inner filling (in the case of silicone implants) can not be dissolved by the resulting inflammation. The body does not give up, it persists resulting in chronic inflammation. This hypothesis dictates the removal of all foreign materials to improve and cure BII. Many studies have shown microscopic amounts of silicone leaking out and getting into the surrounding capsule. This is why the implant and entire capsule must be removed when dealing with BII patients. This surgery can be consistently and safely performed in the hands of experienced explant surgeons, contrary to many internet skeptics and most plastic surgeons.
